Synergy between Partnership and Auction Marketing Methods: Improving Income Certainty and Competitiveness for Rubber Farmers
Abstract
The objectives of this study are limited to identifying the characteristics of rubber farmers and the processing and marketing of rubber products and building the concept of cooperation in marketing methods that synergize partnerships and auctions. This study was conducted in Bangun Rejo Village, Sukakarya Subdistrict, Musi Rawas Regency, South Sumatra. The study sample consisted of 60 rubber farmers who were divided into two groups: farmers who used recommended agglomerators (ant acid and liquid smoke) and farmers who did not use recommended agglomerators (using sulfuric acid or para vinegar). Primary and secondary data were collected through interviews using questionnaires and on age, education, farming experience, number of family members, land size, farm–home distance, and institutional participation. The data were analyzed descriptively using logistic regression models. This study identified factors that influence the use of recommended coagulants in improving the quality of processing and marketing of rubber products, such as farmers’ experience, ease of access to information, and size of rubber plantations. The recommendations include assistance and guidance to farmers, active involvement of the private sector in the marketing mechanism, and the government stimulus to encourage more effective production and marketing. Synergies between partnership and auction marketing methods, with public and private sector support, can provide better income certainty for rubber farmers and improve the competitiveness of their products in the market. Public sector intervention is also needed to develop infrastructure and logistics systems to improve processed rubber material supply chain.
